Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines were planted at our Lenswood vineyard in 1983. There are 1.7ha of Cabernet Sauvignon and 0.44ha of Merlot planted. In normal years our blend is around 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot.
The first release of Cabernet-Merlot from our vineyard at Lenswood was in 1988. The vines have excellent capacity to ripen their modest crops and provide flavour complexity and richness.
The growing season was above average in warmth right up to the end of March and, despite rain late in March the grapes were in excellent condition. Crop levels were low (around 1.5kg/vine) which really assists the ripening process and ensures concentration of flavour. Harvest was on the 19th and 21st of April.
A rich and firm red wine with abundant ripe fruit and lingering finish. Built to age with an elusive savoury complexity. Excellent food wine.
AromaRipe berry fruit with wild briary, smoky oak overtones. An earthy element is also present.
PalateIntensely flavoured with the fruit elements and subtle oak apparent on the nose carrying through to the palate. Ripe fruit with mouthfilling richness on the middle palate and a lingering, savoury, drying tannin on the finish. Firmly textured but generous and gentle.
