There is much excitement here following news that our 2024 Geoff Weaver sauvignon blanc has been named Sauvignon Blanc of the Year in the 2026 Halliday Wine Companion Awards. It’s a very proud moment indeed – coming 43 years after we planted the first vines on an Adelaide Hills site with great promise.

As a deep and less overt sauvignon, it is particularly good to see the 2024 rewarded in this way. I’ve always felt that Lenswood is perfect for sauvignon. Our ancient low-fertility soils restrain its natural vigour and, together with the coolness of our site, give what I believe is the best expression of the variety. There is nothing green and vegetal here, but rather fine fragrance and complex flavours balanced with lively natural acid and textural edge. Serious wine. Great with food.

Recently I spoke with journalist Ed Merrison about the very early days of studying agriculture, asking legends such as Max Schubert for a job and finding my way in the world of wine. There is always more to learn, another vintage to make, and that is an enduring joy. But in moments like this it’s also important to pause and to celebrate.
